Ex-GKN workers seek answers from the region

Former GKN workers returned to the streets to emphasize the importance of creating industrial consortia, a legislative proposal they are urging the regional council to consider. This July will mark three years of their ongoing mobilization at the GKN Driveline factory in Campi Bisenzio. The protest, marked by significant participation from Florentine collectives, started from Via Mariti, the site of a tragic accident a few months ago at the Esselunga construction site. The demonstration addressed various issues, from workplace safety to the Palestinian cause. At the end of the march, the protesters occupied the courtyard of the regional headquarters by climbing over the fences. There were moments of tension with the police, who initially tried to prevent the occupation but eventually relented, allowing the demonstrators to setup tents and spend the night on the premises.
