Demontstration against "Vicenza Oro" fair

On January 20, 2024, Vicenza hosted one of Italy's most prestigious gold fairs. As every year, the event featured various pavilions of interest, including the Israeli one. This year, however, social centers from the North-East decided to protest against the presence of the State of Israel at the fair, organizing a large demonstration that started from Vicenza's train station. The march eventually deviated from its planned route and headed towards the fair's gates, which had been closed in advance by the police. Despite this, the protesters managed to breach the gates using an angle grinder. A violent clash ensued with the police—a level of violence unseen in Italian demonstrations for years. The protesters were armed with helmets and iron bars, while the police responded with water cannons. The confrontation ended around noon, resulting in several injuries and arrests.
